Wine maker notes
The interplay of climate and soil forms the basic character of wines from the Kamptal. Warm, dry air arrives by day from the Pannonian plains to the south while evening brings cooler air currents from the Waldviertel region to the north. Here, the vines dig for water and nutrients through layers of loess and chalk into the primary rock below. The culimation of these factors is an array of wines that combine concentration and fragrance-- wines that portray their terroir with precision. Loimer Muskateller achieves these ends through the uniquely aromatic lense of Muscat Blanc a Petit Grains. Vinified dry, Loimer Muskateller is an entirely Austrian example of one of the world’s most characerful grape varieties.

Born into a winemaking family, Fred Loimer Jr. realized early on that he would have a future in the winemaking business. Following his formal education and experiences abroad working for other wineries, he returned to his family”s winery in Langenlois, where he utilized his newly gained experience - something that didn´t always please his father. In 1998, one year after the winery was handed over from father to son; Loimer bought a historical vaulted brick cellar, a former cellar of the Haindorf Castle, in the middle of the grapevines between Langenlois and Zobing. With the help of the architect Andreas Burghardt, he renovated the cellar adding a minimalist building above to serve as the tasting room and office. Since 1999, the wines have been vinified and stored in the historical cellar under perfect, natural temperature conditions. Moreover, the Veltliners and Rieslings from single vineyard sites are ranked amongst the best wines of Austria and the wine world.
