Wine maker notes
Each year, our winemaker selects grapes from some of our finest vineyards in Mendoza to create a wine that is the ultimate expression of the vintage. The 2006 Ultra is from the esteemed subregions of Tunuyan, Tupungato and La Consulta in the Uco Valley. This is extreme wine country. At approximately 4,000 feet, the vineyards sit, surrounded by snow-capped mountains, in the foothills of the Andes, where the clarity of air is met by radiance of the sun. The dramatic topography is matched by the climate, which provides huge diurnal temperature variation and little rain. Combined, these forces produce concentrated fruit with brooding intensity of character. Made only in select years, our Structura Ultra is the ultimate expression of our finest wine of the vintage, crafted to encompass the very best that the harvest has to offer. We began by carefully selecting the fruit, which was hand picked and hand sorted. Following a six-day cold maceration, the grapes were fermented in temperature-controlled stainless steel tanks for 30 days and then gently pressed and gravity fed into 100 percent new French oak barrels for secondary (malolactic) fermentation and 18 months of aging. Just before bottling, Winemaker Gaspar Roby balanced the Malbec, Cabernet Sauvignon and Merlot into a poetic whole.

Producer
The Navarro Correas family descends from the Correas family, an old and prestigious name related to the production and manufacturing of high-quality wines. The family history dates back to 1798, when Sir Juan de Dios Correas planted the first vine seeds in the lands of Mendoza at the foot of the Andes ridge. Sir Juan De Dios also played an active role in the public life of Mendoza, where he served as Municipal Councillor in the year 1814 and as governor in 1824. Since mid 1800, and for more than a century, the family used to sell the Winery’s grapes and wines to other producers. Finally, in 1974 Sir Edmundo Navarro Correas, a direct descendant of Juan de Dios Correas, started to manufacture wines bearing his own name.
