Bricco Bertone (Comune of Sinio) is a vineyard planted on ancient calcareous soils which provide deeper layers of black fruit, incense and ash. The fruit was fermented and macerated for up to 7-15 days in temperature controlled stainless tanks with frequent pump overs and aged for 12 months in oak barrels and stainless steel tanks. A concentrated red that effortlessly integrates rich expressions of dark red fruit with minerality and balanced acidity.
G.D. Vajra was founded in 1972 by husband and wife Aldo and Milena Vaira. When Aldo inherited almost 100 acres of vineyards in Vergne – the highest village in the Commune of Barolo – he broke from family tradition and began producing wines under his own label. The wines are made from 100% estate fruit that is triple sorted by hand. For more than 40 years, this wonderfully humble and hardworking couple has crafted soulful and honest expressions of Nebbiolo, Barbera, Dolcetto, Moscato and Riesling. G.D. Vajra is entirely a family affair. The winery was named after Aldo’s father, Giuseppe Domenico, and Aldo and Milena work with their daughter Francesca and sons, Giuseppe and Isidoro. Their guiding philosophy is simple - they are not modern, they are not traditional. They practice sustainable farming and craft sensitive, transparent wines of place by patiently and humbly allowing the fruit to dictate its own evolution. “I try to make wines that give people joy. |This Barbera was made with fruit from six estate vineyards: Fossati, San Pietro, Passau, Fontani (Comune of Barolo), Piedicucche (Comune of Novello) and Bricco Bertone (Comune of Sinio). Fossati, San Pietro, Passau and Fontani (Comune of Barolo) are planted on rich white marl soils which lend delicacy, aromatics and freshness. Piedicucche (Comune of Novello) is planted on darker soils that are rich in clay and iron, which add body and structure.
|The estate of G.D. Vajra, situated in Vergne the highest village in the Commune of Barolo, was
established in 1972 by Giuseppe Domenico. Milena and Aldo Vaira are the current owners.
Both have worked the vineyards since the early 1970s. Vajra currently owns 40 sustainably
farmed hectares in such strategic spots as Bricco delle Viole, Fossati, La Volta, Coste di Vergne.
The vineyards are planted with Nebbiolo, Dolcetto and Barbera at elevations between 350-400
meters, which results in distinctive and aromatic wines. Their philosophy remains faithful to the
