In 1991, Pio Cesare purchased a small estate in Serralunga d’ Alba, close to the Ornato vineyard. This new estate is a perfect location, facing south, and could have been a great Barolo vineyard. Instead, they removed the nebbiolo vines and replaced with barbera. Ageing for twenty months in small French oak barrels as well as 25 hectolitre casks, contributes a sweetness and longevity of tannins. The colour is wonderful, typical of the barbera varietal. The palate is surprisingly supple, round and soft, with good acidity. This wine has great ageing potential.
