Dark and profound ruby red
This wine offers the nose full and intense aromas with hints of plums, jams of red fruits and sweet accents of spices.
A wine of a good body, it has a mouth-filling flavour that is warm and soft and expresses a highly mature fruitiness, supported by a pleasant complex of sweet tannins.
Made from a strict selection of grapes – exclusively of the Primitivo variety – grown on a terrain of reddish ochre earth mixed with slabs of limestone that have been crushed (according to the unique technique known as spietramento), and following 12 months’ maturation in 65-hectolitre casks of precious Slavonian oak as well as appropriate bottle-ageing, this cru maintains the rigour of its indigenous cultivar whilst opening itself up to international taste. Indeed, the name Sasseo (“stony”) chosen for this Primitivo is intended to recall the uniqueness, sunniness and strength of the terroir that one finds in the glass. An intense ruby red, it offers scents of sour cherries, violets, liquorice and sweet spicy hints. It is velvety, warm and persistent: a wine to sip slowly together with a substantial dish or whilst just reading a book.
|Its structure makes this an ideal wine as an accompaniment for typical dishes of Apulian cuisine like ”Capriata di fave e cicoria” (fava bean and chicory soup), red meats roasted over the coals and roast lamb.
|Casa Vinicola Zonin is one of Italy’s most important privately-owned wine-producing companies and is also one of the foremost worldwide. It distributes and markets the still and sparkling wines under the Zonin label as well as those of the family’s nine Estates.
Inspired by the principle “each region has its own traditions, each region has its own wines” Gianni Zonin has, since the end of the 1960s, been selecting outstanding terroirs, bringing Casa Vinicola Zonin to its present area under vine of around 2.000 hectares, supervised by a team of 32 oenologists and agronomists. These make up 9 Estates situated in Italy’s 7 finest Regions for wine production, as well as a property in the United States, Barboursville Vineyards in Virginia.
Different production areas, each with its own specific terroir and its own peculiarities in terms of climate and morphology, the experience and professionalism of our agronomists and oenologists and the choice of dynamic business strategies: these are the most important values on which our company’s philosophy is based.
