The estate of Gilles Ferran in Rasteau offers wines of exceptional style and value. The Domaine has been in the Ferran family since 1953. All of the vineyards face south and are located between 150 and 250 meters altitude, unusual for the Southern Rhone. This allows the vines to achieve optimal maturity and balance. The soils are composed of red and yellow clays with round stones and some chalk. Traditional farming is employed, weeds are controlled by plowing and only organic fertilizers are used. The exposure of leaf surface is maximized to further promote maturity of fruit on the vines. The grapes are hand-harvested and sorted, then de-stemmed before fermentation in cement tanks. The two varietals, Grenache and Syrah, are vinified separately.
