Wine Advocate 87 points - The 2007 Cotes du Rhone Vieilles Vignes (75% Grenache and the rest Syrah) is opulent, fleshy, and rich, with a dark ruby/purple color, medium to full body, and admirable flavor intensity. It does not offer a great deal of complexity, but it is mouthfilling and satisfying. It should drink well for 2-3 years. (Oct 2009)
Collections of old vines (50 years old) consisting mainly of Grenache.
|Old Grenache vines 60 %, Syrah 20 %, Mourvèdre 10 %, various others (Cinsault, Cournoise, Carignan) 10 %
|By dint of faith and sheer hard work, the wine-growers of Gigondas have replaced the olive tree with the vine. They have thereby made a name for themselves.
Here, wild and uncommon, a bird watches over the domain : the Grand-duc owl which sings, (known as « Canta duc » in Provencal), his name has become over time « Santa Duc ».
Generous, fruity and concentrated, the vines reflect the soil and the way in which they are produced.
