Wine Enthusiast 93 points - Oddly, the most consistent Krug wine I have been tasting lately is their non-vintage Brut Grand Cuvee, a big, boldly styled Champagne with smoky, earthy, pear, apple, and spicy aromas as well as flavors, loads of effervescence, and fine body and depth. Score: 93. —Robert Parker, December 2005.

Wine Advocate 94 points - I have a preference for the 1995 Brut Vintage, as it shows quite a bit more freshness and verve than the 1998. Mint, dried flowers, truffles and bright fruit are some of the nuances that flow from this precise, focused Champagne. The vibrant, refreshing finish makes it impossible to resist a second taste. Among recent vintages, the 1996 has rightly received a ton of attention here, while the 1995 is likely to remain an insiders wine that is available at more favorable pricing.  (Dec 2010)

Wine Spectator 98 points - A very youthful '95. Delicate. Intense aromas of ginger, citrus, candied berry and multigrain bread turn to honey, roasted almonds and graphite on the palate. It's all underscored by a precise structure and creamy texture. Its structure keeps it persistent through the long finish. A picture of precision and intensity. Drink now through 2025. Score: 98. —Bruce Sanderson, July 31, 2006.

The real surprise among Krugs 1996s is the 1996 Vintage, which is drinking beautifully, even among this rarified air of single-vineyard Champagnes. The 1996 Vintage is explosive and creamy, with just the right balance of power, richness and freshness. The mousse is perhaps just a touch less refined than in the 1996 Clos du Mesnil and Clos dAmbonnay, but it is also perfectly measured with the wines exuberant personality. This multi-dimensional, textured Champagne is at the early part of its drinking window and promises to deliver an incredible drinking experience over the coming decades. The take-away from this flight of 1996s from Krug is simple. Although the 1996 Vintage cant possibly be described as inexpensive, it shows exceptionally well next to its much more expensive brethren and clearly delivers a similar level of quality. Readers who have the opportunity to pick up this wine should not hesitate. It is a gem. No disgorgement date provided. Anticipated maturity: 2009-2036.
A powerful, majestic Champagne. Deep and compelling, with aromas of whole-grain toast, coconut and dried citrus that draw you in. Lean and racy on the palate, wtih a creaminess that's yet to be integrated. A classic 1996, with ripe, exotic aromas and a steely structure. This is still a baby, with the long, resonant finish confirming its potential. Best from 2009 through 2040.--B.S. Ranked #10 in Wine Spectator's 2007 Top 100 list.
Krug’s 1998 Brut Vintage is an excellent choice for drinking today, as the classic Krug style is rich, alive and totally vivid. Honey, almonds, smoke, graphite and dried apricots are some of the many aromas and flavors found in this rich, enveloping Champagne. A wine of texture and depth, the 1998 impresses for its vinous personality and terrific balance. Lively veins of underlying acidity suggest the 1998 will drink well for many years to follow. This is one of the best bottles of the 1998 I have ever tasted. Anticipated maturity: 2012-2038.
This harmonious Champagne offers luxurious texture, aromatic accents of spring blossom, crushed thyme and chai, powerful, focused acidity and rich notes of lemon meringue, hazelnut, black currant and fresh porcini mushroom. The full package. Impressive. Drink now through 2028. From France.—A.N.
The Krug vintage 2000 Brut smells strikingly redolent of sea breeze, kelp, and piles of oyster and mussel shells, allied to lemon oil and toasted hazelnuts. On the palate, the aforementioned elements serve for compulsive salivation, while a lusciously juicy amalgam of lime, grapefruit and apple tinged with piquancy of their pips buoys the salty wave of mineral matter into a profoundly protracted finish that bursts with brightness and at the same time reveals mouthwateringly savory crab shell reduction and a hitherto largely hidden dark side of smoky Latakia tobacco, dark-roasted coffee, and toasted grains. Expect this to merit following for 12-15 years.
Very aromatic, with lots of rose water, pickled ginger, ground coffee and cardamom accents on the nose and finely textured palate. The flavors of ripe black cherry, grapefruit granita, piecrust, fleur de sel and spun honey are enlivened by well-honed acidity, creating a mouthwatering impression on the lightly chalky finish. Drink now through 2028.—A.N.
Krug’s 2000 Brut Vintage is just beginning to hit its stride. Hints of pastry, butter, toasted almonds, dried pears and apricots are all woven together beautifully in this distinctive, gorgeous Champagne. All the Krug signatures come to life beautifully in the glass. The 2000 is still quite young, especially if readers are looking for more tertiary complexity and nuance. At the same time. I don’t think the 2000 will ever be one of the most explosive wines made at this historic property, but it offers considerable medium-term appeal and plenty of personality. This is a great showing from Krug. Anticipated maturity: 2020-2040. ”
Tightly knit, this is finely textured and expressive. Savory hints of fennel seed and cardamom accent dried apricot, bread dough, hazelnut, creamy espresso and grapefruit zest notes, remaining racy and focused through to the lasting, lightly briny finish. Drink now through 2027.—A.N.

Krug only produces a Vintage when a crop has exceptional characteristics and sufficiently interesting features. To create exceptional vintages, the Krug family selects those wines that best express the ”voice” of the chosen year.
Food pairing
Perfect accompianiments to rich creamy dishes like turbo in hollandaise and sea bass in white butter or poultry in cream sauces. Also great with thick creamy dessert. Almonds and vanilla are a bold match.

Producer
Since 1843, six generations of the Krug family have cultivated the markedly individual character of their exceptional champagne, showing that same single-mindedness and sense of purpose with which the founder, Johann-Joseph Krug, set out alone in pursuit of his objective of creating a champagne with a taste all its own.
