Palomero was made under supervision of Issac Fernandez from a selection of grapes of the Tinto Fino varietal from parcels planted with 70-80 year old vines. After aging for 18 months in new French Allier and American oak barrels, this wine was bottled without any process of filtration or fining so as to respect all the characteristics of the wine. It is possible that as the wine ages you may notice deposits of sediment in the bottle.
|Robert Parker Review:
The profound 2001Palomero boasts an opaque ruby/purple color as well as an extraordinary perfume of sweet saddle leather, smoke, herbs, blackberries, creme de cassis, truffles, and graphite. One of the most prodigious Ribera del Dueros I have tasted, it offers great precision, fabulous concentration, and a long, 40+ second finish. Anticipated maturity: now-2016. -RP
Wine Spectator Review:
Stiff tannins support and rather dominate the black cherry, tobacco and spice flavors in this traditional red. Plenty of concentration, but needs food to soften. Best from 2007 through 2015. 1,990 cases made. –TM
