From the Empordà-Costa Brava DO, this is a blend of old-vine (50-80 years) Garnacha and Carignon plus dashes of Tempranillo, Syrah and Cabernet Sauvignon. Although it spend 8 months in new French oak, there’s no hint of wood on the wine today. It opens with a very elegant and complex nose featuring red fruit, spice cake, and dusty earth. In the mouth, this is lively and very complex – loaded with black black and red raspberry juice complicated by cardamom, cinnamon and anise spice. Nicely mature on the finish with just a lingering touch of tannin for structure. Delicious!

“Marti Fabra, a newcomer to the increasingly interesting Spanish wine scene, is located in an appellation that is revealing wonderful potential with its old vine Grenache and Carignan as well as its newer plantings of Cabernet Sauvignon, Syrah, and Tempranillo. Aged 8 months in French oak, the unfined/unfiltered 2003 Marti Fabra Seleccio Vinyes Velles exhibits a rich, sweet perfume of black cherries and earth, an elegant attack, medium to full body, good depth as well as ripeness, and a long finish.”
