Steve Tanzer Review:
(100% garnacha, from vines that are reportedly over 50 years old and planted at 2,300 feet; aged for six months in used French oak; 15.5% alcohol): Saturated ruby. Powerful scents of fresh dark berries, cola, flowers and smoky minerals. Broad and chewy, with sweet dark fruit and candied floral flavors and an intense spicy overtone. Dusty tannins add grip to the long, sappy finish, which features notes of bitter chocolate and licorice. Give this serious wine at least another six months of bottle age.
|The winery is located in Villarroya de la Sierra, one of the highest areas of the DO made of Paleolithic materials, mainly quartzite and slate. In addition the soils have the right organic content, which provide sufficient nutrients to the plant with proper aeration. The climate offers little rain and large temperature fluctuations between day and night.
