The goal of Treana Red is to deliver, vintage after vintage, the best Cabernet Sauvignon-based wine in Paso Robles. Blended with Syrah for a complete, mouth-filling experience, our Treana Red is crafted to keep company with any wine from any region at any price point on the world stage.
The wine starts with the most promising lots from some of the best vineyards in Paso Robles—as many as eight vineyard sources make it to the final blend, enriching the sum of the parts. The fruit is harvested not based simply on its sugar content, but on the potential of its tannin structure to provide both drinkability and longevity. Grapes are picked in the cool of the morning, soaked on their skins after crushing, then allowed to develop into a long, slow fermentation utilizing naturally available yeast to enhance complexity. The wines are finished with cultivated yeast to ensure dryness and stability.
The elements that go into Treana Red are aged 10-14 months in French oak, 65% of it new. In the summer after harvest, a trial blend of the best barrels of Cabernet and Syrah is created and then returned to barrel to marry the flavors—depth and power from the Cabernet and an inviting fleshiness from the Syrah. The wine comes back together in tank before bottling to complete the integration and allow for final fine-tuning.
The result is a wine somewhere between Napa and Bordeaux, a full-throated, luxurious wine but one with finesse as well. “We walk the fine line all California winemakers walk,” says winemaker Austin Hope, “aiming for wine that’s not over the top, not all lushness, but with some grace and elegance.”
The proof is in the bottle. To cite just one evaluation, the care and vision that go into Treana Red are the reason that Decanter magazine recently named the Treana Red one of the three best Regional Blends in the US—keeping good company indeed.

| The Hope Family has been farming in Paso Robles formore than 20 years. When they
arrived in this undiscovered land, they planted apples and grapes. Little did they know
that the rolling, oak studded terrain of Paso Robles would one day become viticultural
terroir of importance, showing strong potential to be the top region within the entire
Central Coast-in terms of quality red wine.
Gone are the apples and original vineyards. Today the Hopes cultivate mature vineyards
of the varietals best suited to their area; Cabernet Sauvignon, Syrah, Merlot, Petite Sirah,
and Mourvedre. Vine density has been increased and the vines are asked to produce very
little fruit. The terroir of this domain expresses a special regional character-regardless of
the varietals planted, the expression of Paso Robles is there; spice, licorice and berry in the
nose and soft textures and silky tannins in the palate. The blend of Treana Red Wine is
proprietary. |
