Intensity – 4; Sooty, oak, cologne, leather, smoky
Salty, mint, musty, significant rye presence, yet with a creamy texture
Length – Long; Molasses, toffee, rich caramel, chocolate, fudge, peppermint
Spirit Journal Rating:**** (Four Stars Highly Recommended)
Old copper color; flawless purity. Emits a round, supple yet alluringly spiky/prickly opening aroma that's dry yet fruity; the fruit salad element continues following further time in glass as the bouquet evolves into a bakery encounter, plush with fruit tarts, prune Danish, and lemon meringue. Entry is remarkably fruity, ripe, and wine-like; midpalate is pleasingly oily, peppery, satiny in texture, and just flat-out honey-like. I'd almost have guessed this to have been matured in old sherry barrels, which of course I know, by law, is illegal for straight bourbon. That, however, is what it tastes like.
