Mischief and Mayhem Corton Charlemagne 2010  750ml
Shy on aromas, this hefty white delivers apple, pear, lemon and mineral flavors on a full-bodied frame. A touch hot in the balance, with a powerful finish. Best from 2015 through 2027. 50 cases made. -BS We produced this Corton-Charlemagne Grand Cru from Chardonnay vines with an average age f just over 40 years, spread between three small parcels across the south-west facing upper slopes of the ... click for more details

Mischief and Mayhem Corton Charlemagne 2011  750ml
An underlying stony note bridges the gap between apple and spice flavors as this vibrant white tightens up on the finish. Shows the austerity of the place and the vintage. Best from 2017 through 2032. 75 cases made.-BS We produced this Corton-Charlemagne Grand Cru from Chardonnay vines with an average age f just over 40 years, spread between three small parcels across the south-west facing upper  click for more details

Vincent Girardin Corton Charlemagne 2013  750ml
(this wine includes the fruit that normally goes into the Quintessence bottling as the crop was cut by 60% to 80% by hail; along with the rest of the Girardin grand crus, it was bottled in early May, or less than a month before my visit): A bit less pristine on the nose than the Chevalier-Montrachet, offering scents of lemon drop and peach syrup. Plush, sweet, thick and very concentrated, with a ... click for more details

Jean Chartron Corton Charlemagne 2012  750ml
The 2012 Corton-Charlemagne Grand Cru comes from their 0.08-hectare parcel in Le Charlemagne, berthed slightly toward the Pernand side. The nose seemed very tight when I tasted it from barrel despite rigorous coaxing. The palate is already showing good weight and harmony. The oak is nicely integrated at the beginning but will need to be subsumed toward the finish. It is just a little conservative  click for more details

Joseph Drouhin Corton Charlemagne 2013  750ml
Pale, bright yellow. Lemon oil, wild herbs, vanilla and oak char on the nose (but this aged in the same 30% to 40% new oak as the other grand crus here). Very rich, plush and sweet, but showing surprising energy to its flavors of ripe apple, ginger and dusty minerality. This is actually the lowest in acidity of the 2013 grand crus here, at 3.9 grams per liter. Finishes with plenty of ripe tannins. click for more details

Bonneau du Martray Corton Charlemagne 2011  750ml
The hill in Corton is one of the biggest landmarks in the Cote d’Or and also happens to mark the boundary between the Cote de Beaune and the Cote de Nuits. It has long been considered a superior site, Emperor Charlemagne owned part of this 400 acre hill - that same portion is owned and farmed by Jean-Charles Le Bault de la Moriniere. Domaine Bonneau du Martray is recognized as one of the ... click for more details

Bouchard Pere & Fils Corton Charlemagne 2013  750ml
Intense fruit and toasty aromas blended with the mineral notes typical of this appellation. A rich, powerful wine with a strong personality. Very good ageing potential. Nutmeg, apple and white peach flavors are accented by lemon and stone in this lean, intense style. This is reticent now, but has depth and nascent power in reserve, building to a long aftertaste of spice and mineral. Best from ... click for more details

Domaine des Héritiers Louis Jadot is proprietor of an exceptional, 4.94-acre parcel of vines adjacent to Les Pougets exposed directly to the south. Domaine Tollot-Beaut Corton 2011  750ml
Tasted blind at the Burgundy 2011 horizontal tasting in Beaune. There is a lot of oak on the nose of Tollot-Beaut’s Corton Grand Cru ‘11, which here seems to smother the fruit behind it. The palate is ripe on the entry with smudged red berries and spice, although the finish is missing tension and personality. It has commercial appeal, but at the moment that emerges through the ... click for more details

Domaine Tollot-Beaut Corton 2012  750ml
The 2012 Corton is surprisingly approachable today, but then again, these wines can be deceptive when they are young. There is lovely pliancy and richness to the black cherry, spice, rose petal and mint flavors, all backed up by plenty of energy and overall structure. Today, it is the wine’s overall harmony that is absolutely compelling. While the Corton is less forbidding today than it ... click for more details

Domaine Tollot-Beaut Corton Bressandes 2011  750ml
Tasted blind at the Burgundy 2011 horizontal tasting in Beaune. There is a charred note on the nose of the Corton-Bressandes Grand Cru ‘11 that rather distracts from the broody black and red berry fruit, perhaps indicative of some barrels being excessively toasted. The palate is medium-bodied and supple on the entry, the fruit profile veering to the red side of the spectrum: cranberry, ... click for more details

Mischief and Mayhem Aloxe Corton Premier Cru 2011  750ml
We produced this Aloxe-Corton Premier Cru from Pinot Noir vines with an average age of just over 45 years, harvested from sites to the east and south-west of the ancient village of Aloxe-Corton. The vines here are planted in a mix of limestone soils with good mineral and iron content, layered through with pebbles. Bottled after 16 months in barrel, this is a wine of real elegance, length and ... click for more details
